The way overcomes the walker

The training lessons of Armenian high school librarians organized by Ministry of Education and Science of Armenia,  “Center of Educational programs” and ”International educational partners” organizations, bythe project implementation in the second circle of the program “The quality and relevance of education” were finished.

Librarians of the high schools of Yerevan and all regions of Armenia met with the basic principles, forms and methods of organizing and managing modern school libraries and the opportunities that information and communication technology resources provide for expanding and improving the productivity of work.

The most important thing was that the course participants reinvented the role and the significance of the library and librarian in the process of providing a favorable learning environment in the school, education and training of the students, forming and developing of active and independent learning skills in them.

The librarians studied the proposed materials with great interest, actively participated in the group works and in the general discussions. We were glad to see how hour by hour their attitude, their notion of the library work changed, how the skepticism of the first hours, that Armenian school libraries need  years for corresponding to the international standards, turned into a willingness to start the changes in their libraries even with small steps.

For this it was very useful the direct acquaintance with the library of “Mkhitar Sebastatsi” educational complex and its web-page. The library staff presented its work, answered the questions of the participants, and invited all the libraries to cooperate with great love. Each time the director of the library Mari Gabanyan presented the group of student-librarians with special love and pride, who were directly involved in the daily work of the library and updating the information of the web-page. The trainings gave also the opportunity to the librarians of different regions to get acquainted with each other, exchange experience, and discuss their problems. And its logical continuation was the initiative of the first days to create Armenian association of school libraries. I am sure that the authors will follow to implement this good idea.

I think that the competition of "Best School Library of year" in Armenia will improve the role and importance of school libraries, the public appreciation, which will make the school leaders and teaching staff change attitude towards the library as a service chain, and realize that the library and librarian are equal participants of educational process with them. " Mkhitar Sebastatsi" Educational Complex’s  media library’s stuff  greatly contributed in the successful implementation of courses with clear and operational work both in technical support, and in all organizational matters.

I want to separate the students of the educational complex, who were always ready to help us in any case, and were closely watching the process of the training for illustrating it in time and correctly.
Thanks to everyone who helped to implement the courses of this training.

Good luck to all the librarians on the way of reforming Armenian libraries. I am sure that due to their creative approach, energetic efforts, patient and persistent work our schools will have modern and renovated libraries.
