Yeghishe Charents / English Club

Yeghishe Charents (March 13, 1897 – November 27, 1937) was an Armenian great poet, writer and public activist. Charents was an outstanding poet of the twentieth century, touching on different topics that reflected his experiences in the First World War, and socialist revolution. He was a distinctive poet of the 20th century in Armenia. At an early stage of his literary activities, Charents joined the Bolshevik party, but as the Stalinist terror began in the 1930s, he gradually grew disappointed with Stalinism and therefore was executed during the 1930s purges. For me Charents was a great fan of his motherland, a progressive citizen of his country. He possessed great talent and incredible style of conveying his thoughts to the reader. He was the person who could never close his eyes on those problems, which he thought to be fatal for Armenian people. Full of love for his motherland he believed in the bright and strong future of Armenia, maybe he was idealist but this property illustrated the positive aspect of his poetry. If you only read his poem titled «I love Sun Taste Words of Armenia», which I believe every second Armenian knows it by heart, you will become convinced of the beautiful, melodic and deep set language that Charents possessed.
