Caucasus Institute Conference

Providing Basis for a new relation between the European Union and The Caucasus Institute. (The goal of that the conference seeks to achieve). 2010 is a year of great interest, and I am very grateful for the interest by the Caucasus Institute regarding this matter. 2010 – The year of endings and beginnings. We must analyse the endings and the beginnings. The process of a new political system in Georgia. 2008 Parliament Elections were violent. In 2009 the government behaved differently, with less force. The local elections are important for one aspect – Mayor of Tbilisi. Percentages in the election) The ruling party got almost 60%. Ruling party candidates were part of the revolutionary movement. Leaders of the political party met with Russian president Putin. Local elections were very important because of how international viewers would. Criticize elections in Georgia. There were 2 major political parties running for the local elections in Georgia. Both political parties campaigned and had media under they’re control. Local election shows that the government shows support, Georgian president ran a political movement which allied the government with some unlikely allies, such as Iran and North Caucasus. This movement was heavily criticized. The event that happened in 2010, the adoption of the new constitution,  affected the political movement. The constitution is a step forward to the process of europenization. The movement demanded that the Presidential system changed to a parliamental system. This new constitution does establish a parliamentery system but the role of the President in the country stays the same, But the central figure is the Prime Minister. The role of the Prime Minister is extremely complicated. The new constitution will come right after the presidential elections in 2013. The main reason of the constitutional changes are too maintain peace with the opposition. Many fear  that president  “Sahakashlili” will maintain rule and power in the country and the government by becoming the new Prime Minister (After the general/presidential elections in 2013) via his current stance and power in the government. 2010 Georgian economy is not sustain, one of the reasons it the uncertainty in the country regarding the Government. The removal of the Stalin Monument in Georgia shows that The Georgian communist party is weakening and almost has to affect. The removal of the monument from a public place marks the climb of ending the ethnic nationalism in the country and is the beginning of the Religious nationalism. The religious nationalism political party increases the number of demonstrations in the country possibly to test the current governments stability. The religious political party stands on a non-democratic  stance and follows the Russian orthodox church.
