Discussions at the English speaking club:Do children need school or not?

Although the article written by Olga Yurkovskaya is addressed to parents we read and discussed it at our English speaking club last Wednesday. I was sure that the English speaking club members would understand the author's point of view without being affected very much by her. My conclusion is that some of our learners are more sensible than the author. Here is the opinion expressed by the learners Tigran Abrahamyan, George Tevosyan and Artak Nshanyan

School is a good place to study. But it has many positive and negative sides. Let’s discuss them. School helps a person to be more social. School helps a person to be integrated in social life, to be more communicative. School gives us much knowledge and skills. It helps us to become smarter.

And now let’s speak about the negative sides. Teachers sometimes make pupils learn a text by-heart. Why? It is unnecessary, because there is no point in learning a text by-heart. Why? Teachers very often force the pupils to do very many mechanical exercises making our brains less smart. Why?

Conclusion: we need a good school with good teachers.
