I have noticed that videos, films, and authentic materials are one of the most popular topics being discussed by several of you Blogathon-ers :)
For this, in this post I decided to introduce you a website which will transform you from mere consumers of authentic video materials into producers: http://ed.ted.com/ .
TEDEd, an excellent website which is actually an extension to TED.com, to me, is a revolutionary step towards empowering educators and teachers worldwide to create their own video-based lessons online and share it with the world.
How can this site be used by ELT professionals? This website will enable you to create your own easily customized lessons around videos by tweaking and adding certain features to them. That is, by using TEDEd, you can choose videos from TED - www.ted.com , TEDxTeen - http://www.tedxteen.com/ (including interesting speeches by teens), or any video from Youtube or even the one created by you, and then add comprehension questions, open ended questions for reflections, or extra links for extra readings to it.
This is a great tool for providing your students extra independent listening comprehension practices, have them dig the topic deeper through reading, and later on have a heated discussions in the classroom.
My favorite videos which I continuously use with this tool are RSA animates (on youtube) which use animations to discuss different educational talks.
I hope you’ll enjoy using the website as much as I do! Don’t hesitate to try it! :)
