"Bangladesh" with my own eyes

Nanor Hovhannisyan

When I was a little child my mother and I were walking along Abovyan street when I began asking her lots of questions. A question gives rise to another question, an answer gives rise to another answer, and in the result of this we have the solution to an important issue. "Mummy, why don't they decide on a new center of Yerevan every month? Our city would be more beautiful. For example, the "Monument" would be appointed center of Yerevan, and the next month "Massiv" would be our center, and in this way, some day our "Bangladesh" would become the center of Yerevan. For example, instead of admiring the singing-dancing fountains in Republican Square, people would admire the park next to Holy Trinity Church. Many people would gather there, children would run about, play on the playground, and the youth would strol about, and the old would reproach the naughty children."

Now I don't remember my mother's answer. But for a ten-year-old child such a solution was the easiest one. May there be many centers in Yerevan. It wouldn't be bad, would it? But if you think a little more, you will also feel that our Bangladesh has all the features of the center. Do we have squares? Of course, we do. We have parks, wide streets, a cinema, yards full of children, playgrounds. We have so many fountains of drinkable water in our district. You can't find so many in the center. Our "Bangladesh" is a center in the suburbs. It is the center of Yerevan for me.
