Important qualities of a good supervisor

Yeva Markosyan  Grade 11

As I am studying at school, I think that I can speak about some important qualities that supervisors should have. First of all I really like when supervisors are honest. Honesty is something we all need, but for supervisors I think it should be more. As for me, I really don’t like when my supervisor thinks something about me, but says something else in face to face interlocution; I mean, if you don’t like something just tell me, and then I’ll think whether I should change it or not, and thank you for being honest to me.

Supervisors should give good and inspiring advice.  If you are doing something in the wrong way, your supervisor should not wait until you have finished and then begin scolding and punishing you. On the contrary, he/she must give you good advice or tell you some better ways to overcome the difficulties. If you are upset he/she should give you inspiring advice so that you may never give up.

Supervisors should be friendly, but never forget that they are supervisors and keep distance at the same time. I really love when my supervisor is friendly with me, talks to me, asks how I am, and what’s wrong with me.  But at the same time they should do their lesson and not tell us their life story. I come to school to gain knowledge and skills.

By writing this I realized how lucky I am, because I have really good supervisors at our school. Of course, there are some whom I don’t like but they are few.  A good supervisor is someone you’ll remember and be thankful for making you an independent individual.
