A Master Class Lesson with Mesrop Harutyunyan

On March 15 we had a master class lesson within the framework of Social Studies Review “Tigran Hayrapetyan Days”. The master class lesson was conducted by Mesrop Harutyunyan, lecturer of the Linguistec University after V.Brusov.

We learned that journalists’ most important skill is asking questions, and writing and publishing are only derivatives. There aren’t any rules, there are some conventions. We learned that if we don’t know what to begin with, we should begin with the key point. We learned that we should answer the following questions while writing: “What…?”, “Who…?”, “When…?”, “Where…?” and sometimes “Where…?”

Facts are the basis of journalism. There is no fact, there is no journalism, but we are free while interpreting them. Mr. Harutyunyan explained to us that we should avoid using passive constructions while writing. For example, instead of writing “This review has been organized by Mkhitar Sebastatsi Educomplex” we should write “Mkhitar Sebastatsi Educomplex has organized this review.”

Mr. Harutyunyan advised us not to use complicated words while writing, because readers are likely to skip them. We played a game. Several students took sheets of paper with different parts of the same article on them and tried to arrange these parts in the right logical order. We managed the game.

At the end of the lesson we played a humorous, refreshing game and laughed a lot. I think that many students will make a better decision on the matter of choosing their future profession.

We all liked the master class lesson. We express our thankfulness to Mesrop Harutyunyan for this lesson.
