A Meeting with Hovik Charkhchyan

The Armenian text by Ani Harutyunyan

Today an interesting and peculiar meeting with writer and publicist Hovik Charkhchyan took place within the framework of the review EduDigitech.  The teachers and students of the Educomplex were present at the meeting. The representatives of the Vocational School, who are interested in the problems of translation, were also present. As I am also engaged in translations from Russian into Armenian, I decided to take part in the meeting. Hovik Charkhchyan said that translator’s work is very pleasant and at the same time very challenging and time taking. So we should take it very seriously as every word can change or distort the given literary work. Before coming to the meeting I had previously looked through Hovik Charkhchyan’s blog which, I think, is very interesting.  In answer to my question how to choose materials for translation, he said that it is up to the translator to decide, but he advised the junior learners to begin with short creations. Mr.Charkhchyan said that sometimes translators translate the same piece of literature in different ways. … The speaker also spoke about the conception translator’s school .
